In 2005 Building Control legislation included new requirements known as “Part P”. The reason for the introduction of Part P was to help stamp out poor quality and shoddy installation practices that are often carried out by unqualified people with no regard for safety or best practice.
Part P applies only to special locations in domestic installations. The owner of the property is now responsible for compliance. If they have electrical installations carried out, they are required by law to inform the local building inspectorate who are obliged to inspect the work and order revisions if it does not comply with regulations. The cost of this inspection is borne by the house owner.
Alex Scullion Electrical Contractors are an Approved Domestic Installer. This means that we can carry out and inspect our own installations. We then produce certificates and inform the building inspectorate who will then not need to carry out their own inspection. The saving to the client is usually around £200.
